Sounds like a system to me. Once you understand that these are your requirements, you can start looking into what gear can satisfy it, and also adapt based on circumstances. If you sleep in a hammock, conduction is not a problem and the hammock will give a comfortable surface by itself. However, radiation and convection will be major dangers, possibly requiring both an under- and overquilt. Unless it's warm outside, in which case your system reduces to just the hammock.
I can see how this seems overly analytical for more intuitive/"just fucking do it" types, but analytical people like me appreciate this approach to basically being autists in the forest.
