>>2012463>>2012955 this anons got the right idea. Native plants that grow in the woods anyway. You can take a sugar maple forest and thin it out a bit which is better for the trees and allows more light to reach the ground. There you can grow a whole host of shit. In a maple forest i'd go with wild leeks, wood nettle, spring beauty, toothwort, as well as ginseng for the medicine and $$$. Hobblebush would be a good fruit crop for the understory. Blackberries and raspberries could grow on the edges where they get more light. You can also put in some yellowbud hickory trees which can grow in the same environment and be pressed for oil. They're basically the olive of America. Also with all the prunings from the trees you can grow mushrooms as well as whatever pops up wildly in the forest. These things all grow in the same environment naturally, you're just kind of encouraging certain plants and maintaining the whole system.
So you're getting sugar, oil, vegetables, berries, mushrooms and medicine all from the same forest and of course if you hunt whatever game is there you'll get meat.
I honestly think this system of native plant permaculture will have to be the future of how humans feed ourselves if we are gonna stop this mass extinction event.
