Some of you might know me from the pvc pack frame I made a few weeks ago. Well, you guys had some advice and I decided to give it a shot. After a day's worth of dumpster diving in the freezing rain, I've gotten my hands on a proper aluminum chair.

ITT I'll be posting updates of my progress, feel free to give advice/ask questions.

The rivets and screws are all either rusted shut or bent out of shape, i'm going to have a go at with with a drem after dinner. The hacksaw can't reach into the angles necessary to avoid cutting into the aluminum

I had an idea to make a custom pack frame that used bivvi poles as the frame, and the back rest would be a sit pad or a foam sleeping had.
Still working on the design, need to borrow my mum's sewing machine before I start anything real.

Have you got designs?

sorry for the late update, my grandfather has been sick so it's been hectic trying to get my aunt over there to help out. i spent a few hours today grinding out the final rivets, and now the aluminum is in manageable pieces. i found a second chair on a bike ride, it's currently sitting out in the rain to rinse off a little. i'm pretty sure it's steel though, since it's quite heavy.

I've done some research on bending aluminum pipe, and it seems like a major pain in the ass, so i'll probably put that off another few days.

if you're using bivvy poles, you might have issues with bearing heavier weight since they're relatively weak. pretty sure xpacks or a similar brand has something along the lines of your idea, i'll see if i can find it.

Quick update on where I'm at:
I am still messing with ideas for resizing the aluminum, since the larger curved pieces I wanted to fashion into the frame are about 3" too wide, and it's not really feasible to unbend and rebend both ends, since aluminum tubing is so prone to shitty bends. I did a little bit of research and came across this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pp_GqYSBx6k), and it gave me another idea.
I'm thinking I'll cut the curved piece in the middle and take out a 3" section, and then use vid related to resize a ~6" section of pipe to slot in between the two halves, and then run bolts/rivets through the whole thing. Do you guys think that would bear weight well enough to work?
