thinner plier head was an issue yes, but it is workable. You just don't have much for bite. The way the screwdriver bit sits in my palm is annoying. Looking back I should've gotten a spring loaded multitool instead.

It's not a bad tool and i've used it for like 2-3 years and I'm gonna keep using it, but i personally don't recommend it over a normal multitool

Nice. I got the 2.0 shield and the 2.0 4" compact. Carry the shield for work, the compact when off the clock. Did have a G26/G19 gen 4 combo I used, but after shooting both shield and the compact, I sold both to buy those two.

I could see myself using this pretty often with my job as a plumber. Usually I have a proper saw to cut pvc, copper, pex, every thing else, some times the blade needs replace I don't feel like walking all the way back to my truck. Also place your finger on the spine to stop the wobble.

Have you ever seen the stupid yellow plastic safety shrink wrap cutters? Fuck that, I like having a babby fixed blade on my belt instead. Works way better to cut boxes and I don’t have to go digging in my pocket for it. But it’s not like I’m carrying a big bowie knoife.

Also when you’re known as the handyman of the family or group, having a blade comes in handy a lot outside of work.

Of course. The leatherman and SAK saws are usable atleast. SAK you got to be a little careful since it's not locking though. I prefer Silky. I've got a couple. I keep them coated in teflon so they cut and clean up easy.

Better box cutters can be found for less than ten bucks at a lot of stores. Most folks who have to cut cardboard on a regular basis won't put even a cheap pocket knife through that, as it dulls blades quickly and utility blades are cheap and easily replaced.

I love it. I got it from a friend about 5 years ago and use it most days. Knife retains its edge well, and is definitely solid enough for tons of use. I've definitely abused it a bit and it looks almost new still.

The phone light is shitty and wears down the battery really fast. Much better to have something purpose-built that doesn't eat into your emergency contact tool's battery and which isn't so awkward to hold. They make very small and skinny inspection flashlights that aren't a burden to carry at all, no reason not to have one.

And I don't know about you, but I'm not a zoomer so I can't type faster with my thumbs than I can write with a pen and paper. There's also a world of difference between pulling out your phone to check the time during a conversation and glancing at your watch, the latter being practically invisible in 2021 when everyone's so socially autistic.

Takes less time to look at your watch, than it does to dig out your phone. Plus I don't carry my phone when I go running, at the gym, or certain parts at work that doesn't allow a phone.
Notepad is good if you need to leave some one else a note. I use to carry a note pad back when I played DnD, it was great for writing things down or doing little quick drawings of monsters I created, shit like that. Also used it to leave notes to other employees.

Wera is totally gay. They make lots of playskool stuff. I bought a few of the things for the father in-law. They make decent drivers, untill the colorful rubber peels off. Their ratchets won’t work with some sockets from other brands and a lot of it is overengineered German crap made in Eastern Yuro or Asia that looks good during unboxing videos but sucks over time with real use.

What the fuck are you talking about? Maybe if you're dragging the handles down the sidewalk. They use the same Taiwan factory as Wiha. As far as small kits go Wera is one of the better options. Their tilting ratchets are way better to use than my snap on except for back drag. It's not bad but hard to beat snap on. Their regular ratchets are meh. I'll take Stahlwille over it.

I guess it does need to be explained. There's nothing to stop the bit from pushing through on the Victorinox ratchet. You can't put any downward pressure when tightening. And on the reverse if the bit gets stuck the retention is so weak it just pops out. I'll never deal with a useless design like that again given the option. Also there's the possibility of getting the ratchet stuck permanently in a closed space if you don't have the clearance to lift it off the bit.
In general it a tool meant for Instagram now and SAK collectors. The drag is simular to the other Taiwan manufactured ratchets. Though I think Victorinox may use another supplier because it feels like a low tooth count. The bits and the L wrench are ok. Bit of wobble.

I don’t mind Snap On, I just think it’s a huge waste of money for most people. The only time it makes sense is if you work at a shop that has a good rep who shows up often and works with you on deals and credits. But same-day shipping on Amazon and good Taiwan tools have left the Snappy van as an outdated sales model.

Yeah but the Wera is expensive for being made outside of developed countries, plus a lot of it has bullshit meme features that don’t work well in the trade. The Taiwan Gedore is pretty affordable. My Wiha stuff is made in Germany.

I base my Wera opinions on seeing them on lots of blogs and Reddit posts but never doing actual work, plus plenty of reviews from actual tradies who heard they were good and used them in the trade and tons of them said they weren’t nearly as good as the new millennial apprentice claimed they were and felt closer to mid-range Asian stuff with the price tag of American made premium tools.

There’s a lot of people who think the sockets and ratchets are great. Look into some reviews, there’s a whole lot of mechanics and stuff who bought them to use daily at work and they were a fail. Complaints with the Joker wrenches too. Their bits and drivers are fine, I’m shitting on the people who would spend $200 on a Wera socket set that won’t fit a 1/2” socket from another brand for some dumb reason, but they will post a 5 star review after unboxing the thing.

The bit check design is cool, I don’t think I would spend $90 on it for myself. I got one for the father in-law. The little clip that holds the ratchet or whatever was there busted off pretty fast. If the case can’t even hold together, it’s not a great set to keep on the motorcycle.

And it’s not just the 1/2” drive, I was mostly saying if you need an SAE socket from another brand and you have a Wera ratchet, maybe it’s 3/8” drive, the SAE socket might not fit. It’s stupid.

There’s not many good reasons to buy most Wera, especially in the US, unless you’re trying to post unboxing pics online and won’t be getting any chemicals on the tools ever.

Wera and Bahco are pretty much the only tools that held up when I worked in construction, same before that when I worked on cars.
One shop I worked at had some Snap On tools, the most overpriced junk ever, no better than Teng Tools, but at least double the price.
Teng Tools, despite not being the smoothest or most reliable, were actually the most practical choice when I worked at sea, as you could very easily service the ratchets yourself, and you had to, as seawater fucks up everything unless you clean and lube them regularly.
I used to strip the Teng Tools ratchets completely and fill them completely with marine grease, that made them hold up for about a year before needing a new service.

Lots of Bahco stuff got cheap from everything I heard. They got bought out by Snap On Inc and some of their stuff is still good and made in Sweden (I have a Craftsman Pro hacksaw from some years ago made in Sweden, it’s the same Bahco saw rebranded as Snap On and Craftsman Pro). Look at some of the Garage Journal or whatever ToolGay’d blog and then the Amazon reviews for the tools, they’re customer base is fanbois, not tradesmen. Surprising you like the ratchet, maybe you will like it until you don’t, you will try something else and realize the weaknesses or it will shit out on you. The little ratchet in the Toolcheck doesn’t feel any nicer than my Taiwan Gearwrench micro kit, and the bigger Zyklop roto head has a lot of complaints from people who bought it expecting a high quality ratchet on par with the good stuff like Snappy.

I don't like the ratchet because of the durability. It's so easy and nice to use. I feel I get things done far faster. I got a buddy that's a hardcore snapon guy and he loved it. I've felt better ratchet mechanisms but I haven't used a better pivoting head or release/direction tab. That Wera ratchet just works when you're in a weird spot and with zero fuss. Standard stuff it's just ok, the handle works better for weird angles. That said I may fall for the hype and try one of the Japanese brands next. Those I see posted a lot.
I'm not talking about the mini ratchet. The size is the main attraction for that.

And now I understand why you like the ratchet, if it’s your first flex head or roto head, they’re awrsome to use. When doing automotive stuff, I probably use the flex heads like 2/3 of the time and straight ratchets the other 1/3.

This is also why I have shilled the Gearwrench 4pc flex head set so many times, 84-tooth long handle 1/2”, 3/8”, and 1/4” plus a stubby 3/8” and the set would go on sale for <$90.

Pic related looks cool too, real compact heads. I’m indifferent to the quick release button, you lose a tiny bit of strength in the square but at that point you should be using a breaker bar. Anyway, there’s so many anons like myself that grew up with Craftsman socket sets and those shitty 36-tooth ratchets and the 3/8” drive is only like 8” long so you get no torque on it. When I got my first flex heads, the Pitt Pro long handle 3/8” and 1/2”, it made automotive stuff so much easier because I didn’t need an extension and/or u-joint for everything just to be able to swing the handle around. Plus the newer fine tooth mechanisms, when you’re in a tight spot and can only get 1/8 turn on the handle, those extra couple degrees you get from the fine tooth means you can spin that bolt out with 40 turns of the ratchet handle instead of 50 or 60 turns.

Didn't know Bahco got bought out.
Think my Bahco ratchets and sockets are over 20 years now.
Phenomenal gear, the 1/2" has survived quite a lot of abuse, especially when I can't find my hammer, and even breaking loose bolts with an extra 2-3 feet of pipe for torque, everything you shouldn't do.

Most of their stuff is made in Taiwan. I have had good luck with everything from them, it’s made to compete with the tool trucks at a reasonable price, so it works very well for weekenders like myself. Craftsman never really had their own factories, so if you looked at where the Craftsman Pro stuff came from, it was top-tier suppliers. That saw was sourced from Bahco/SnapOn, their ratchets were the same as Armstrong and one of the tool trucks, Mac or Matco I think, their wire strippers looked like they came from the same place as Greenlee or Klein.

They were only around for a few years though, like the early 00s when regular Craftsman started going overseas to the early 10s when Sears started going downhill.

small size
torch/jet flame (good for windproofing, range, and heat output)
reliable and safe! (not chinkshit)
refillable
cap that actually does not get in the way too much
some safe distance between the activating thumb and flame
fuel gauge/window
flame adjustment
angled head (if you prefer)
extended head (if you prefer, more helpful for soft flames)

prince/blazer pb-207 is an old favorite
soto st-485 and st-486 are interesting new models that might fit the bill
use good quality butane
also consider a secondary backup ignition in case the internal piezo ignition fails
