You aren't too far away from the Finger Lakes if you like swimming, sailing, etc. Binghamton also has decent cultural programming, I saw Esperanza Spaulding there a few years ago, and Ithaca has more of that which isn't *too* far away. There are a few nudist camps in the area too if you're into that sort of thing.
Academically Bing has a pretty good engineering program and they seem like they're on the rise, but like this anon
