I do have a life list, though I tend to only include those I've photographed. So far I'm up to 65, plus 5 I've seen when I didn't have a camera.

My dream would totally be to get out there and see more, but right now it's not realistic. For now I stick to hiking with a camera whenever I can and spending lots of time outside around my house or wherever. There's some good birding spots I visit around my town actually as well

My brother is an ornithologist and we were roommates for years (after mamma and daddy's house) so I'm a birdwatcher by proxy.

I can identify most of the local birds by sight (my brother can do them by call), and thanks to going with my bro I've seen a Golden Cheek warbler and a Black Capped Verio (two rare local birds). I enjoy it but haven't made it my life's work like my brother has. I do carry a bird book with me and it's nice having someone you can text a picture to asking "wtf is this bird?" and getting an immediate response.

I've recently started watching bird watchers as a hobby. I haven't kept any log yet, but I plan to begin one next year in the spring when the bird watchers are most active. People fishing and berry or mushroom gatherers are also of interest. I'm trying to stay away from hunters for now because I hear they can be rather dangerous and I don't consider myself experienced enough to take such risks.

It's not always easy when you're quickly trying to get a shot of some bird, especially ones that are prone to quickly moving from perch to perch. Point and shoots mostly auto-focus, which is actually a huge pain when trying to take focused pictures of birds which may be hard for the camera to see through branches, leaves, etc. Manual focus on a real camera is definitely necessary to get nicely focused photos in crowded shots.

Regardless, nice photo and nice bird. I'm in the east so I get their cousin the Eastern Bluebird. I live near a marsh so I get a lot of other awesome birds you don't see in the rest of the state, like this osprey.
