No, that's high end, but it can get ridiculous. Fly rods, you can get them in the $1,000+ range, and a custom bamboo fly rod is going to be $3k+ due to hours of work put in.

Then there are meme rods that are only pricey due to limited production, these are the "hypebeast" rods, Japan loves them. DRT swimbait rods can go for $2k+ but they're merely just a damn $500 blank and some custom grips. But again, limited production.

Here's a video on bamboo fly rods. I don't own one, but they're cool due to the fact a master craftsman has to make them. Pretty cool video. Regular rods are graphite and they're simply just pre-specced out sheets of graphite cut to a specific shape and rolled on a steel rod to certain specifications. Can get really pricey, the Conquest Loomis I linked above is a very premium graphite with a carbon fiber wrap and a graphite-graphite wrap around the blank for added strength. Those materials are pricey alone, then the guides (where the line goes through) are pure titanium with a special thin ceramic ring, each one costing $20-30 per, there's 12 of them on the rod. They weigh nothing, a heavy rated rod only weighs 3.8 Oz.

Can see how these things get pricey as fuck.

i spent my first $60 on a rod i wanted because i read about it, seen its tests, it had the weight capacity i needed and everything. it was the first rod i bought by my own money and it was in '95 i think. i broke the tip of it last season, dunno what to do.
