I tried calling my local fish & game to see if they would clarify something I read in the hunting regs book. Guy responded by saying "there's a season for that? Why would you eat that?" Apparently nobody could answer my question. I hate having to call any government agency.

I was asking about method of take for bullfrogs. There's a season listed for them where you can shoot them with a 22 but I was curious about gigging. The fishing regs here a very strict about where and when you can have a spear/harpoon/fishing bow near a body of water. I was curious if I went out with a gig would the fish pigs slap me with a fine.

What state? Here in KY, everyone knows the harpoon in your pic is specifically for gigging. I had a similar question about crawdad after seeing fish traping is illegal, and the ranger said to just make sure to release any fish that got caught in the trap. I took that as make sure you make it obvious what you're after. If you have a dead frog or 2 in a basket then they are going to assume you are gigging.

Depending on the state you're in, I'd just go for it. Nevada is the same way with bow fishing - the regs are legally contradicting. If you ask the local rangers office you won't get any help.

I agree about having to call govt agencies, it's always extremely frustrating in my experience no matter what it's about. I find our laws to be pretty vague, and maybe the people working in govt agencies agree and just don't know what they're supposed to say, not sure though.

I'm out in simpson county and they couldn't give a rats ass what we do, especially when it comes to aquatics. At least for simpson, Warren, and Barren counties I've seen no restrictions for gigging.
