Good thing /out/ is such a slow board that I can come back days later to reply in a thread that hasn't already disappeared.
>>2035080We still have outside employment at this point. We're too new to have reached self sufficiency yet. The end goal is to produce the majority of our needs ourselves and then rely on odd jobs for cash. Common projects get common funding. i.e. building driveways and fences. We expect you to contribute as much as you can. If that's only money or only labor that's ok. We'll help you build your dwelling when you get here, but the cost of it is on you. And we'll help you with maintenance and repairs. If you need money at the time we'll help you with that too. But we expect to be paid back, in cash or in kind. We're like really really good neighbors or distant relatives.
My cabin has electricity and running water. Refrigerator, deep freezer, washer and dryer, hot shower, wood burning stove and a home gym. I have all the modern comforts that I want. The difference is that you have to be self reliant in order for them to work. You can't just call the landlord or a repair man when something breaks. I designed and built all the systems myself, so a repair guy wouldn't know what he was looking at anyone. Plus getting a contractor to come out for a normal job is next to I possible for where I live. Forget about custom off grid systems.
