But I know that if you store the axe too warm and/or dry the shaft can shrink inside the axehead. Don't know if you risk that by putting it in the oven a couple of minutes though.
So it's something that some guys like to do, but it isn't necessary. As long as you take care of it.
Yep, coating it with linseed oil would be good. Make sure that you wipe off the shaft after you've applied the oil, otherwise it will be too much and may cause blisters.

Make sure to dry the head and sheath before you put it back on.
