>>2038518I too am from Louisiana. Is this your first road trip? Because you are trying to cover too much area for one trip, even if you technically have all summer. I made the same mistake on my first road trip when I made a loop through Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico over two weeks. You can spend multiple weeks in just Utah. Don’t waste the entire country at once. You won’t spend enough time enjoying it, just rushing from place to place. You have your entire life to see it all, save some for later and savor what you do see. Also another thing is that even with infinite times and funds, you will eventually just want to go home. Usually around the 2 week mark. Its a completely natural reaction.
I’ll give you some more unsolicited advice. I’ve done road trips to the west from Louisiana 3 times. Ended up moving out there because once exposed to its beauty I couldn’t handle suffering in the swamp anymore. So just FYI its like a drug, and its expensive. As for your options getting out there by driving, you have three choices. All of which involve at least an entire day of driving through boring desert with little camping opportunities. Just accept that your first and last days will be 12 to 16 hours of driving through fucking nothing. First is I-10, and its the worst option. West Texas is shit, don’t stop except for gas. I-20 isn’t that bad of a choice. You can get a good hotel in Lubbock then camp at Lincoln National Forest the next day. Thats probably my favorite option. If you are aiming for Colorado then you can drive diagonally until you hit I-70. I once did the entire drive in one go using amphetamines. Don’t do that, get a hotel in Salina or Hays, Kansas. Avoid driving through downtown Dallas. Your GPS will tell you its the quickest way but its hell. The additional 10 to 20 minutes to detour will end up being exponentially less stressful, and you want to keep your total stress down as much as possible for long distance driving.
