With mushrooms, you want to use a mesh bag so you can drop spore and potentially seed future mushrooms. Just get an old mesh sack and stuff it in your pocket. Tadahh! Saved you like 30 bucks.

oh i was talking about twigs for fires. no idea about mushrooms, i only pick berries when it comes to edible things. got many liters this summer but i use buckets for those, not dinky pouches

I've heard of people carrying tinder pouches, because tinder is not a great thing to be hunting for when it's dark and raining, but twigs? just put some in your pockets if you don't think you'll find enough when you make camp,Or maybe strap some to the outside of your pack.

I forage a lot and bought a couple of pic related last year so that I could harvest blackberries with both hands instead of holding a milk jug with one hand or keeping the jug on the ground and having to bend down to deposit berries. It works well but pricey for what it is. Having both hands to pick berries, especially really thorny Himalayan blackberries, is nice though. It's also good for harvesting peas and other things from the garden.

For mushrooms I use a folding basket that can fit in my backpack when folded.

The point depends on what you are doing out there. I personally use one for things I do not want crushed in my pockets such as berries or moist pieces of punk wood. I have one that I will sometimes carry on a belt and it is nice because I can can gather tinder or bark that will not fit in my pockets. The sweet spot is having one that can fold down into a belt pouch or realizing that you do not need one. I guess they would also make a decent game bag that you can wash easily if there is blood on it.
