As for alternatives? It's honestly been a while, but there's various "primitive technology" channels that showcase various things done in forests by mostly naked guys, trying to get in on the niche.

Just keep in mind that a lot of these groups getting in on the niche, likely are video taping doing it by hand, and doing it by shovels or other modern methods whenever the camera is off to speed things up a bit.
