>>2054470Yes it sounds like you were using kerosene (which is perfectly fine in terms of light output and safety, but can only be burned outdoors), or at least kerosene barely refined enough to call "lamp oil"
With a cold blast lantern you generally don't want to use thick paraffin oil (look up paraffin oil, it has different definitions depending what country you're in).
You want something closer to kerosene but really well refined so it doesn't stank. I buy pic related from a church supply shop, it's the best quality and what little smell it has is pretty much the same as a plain candle.
It's worth the money, it burns super slow and you'll get hundreds of hours of comfy out of a single bottle
