I think it has to do with their island being pretty habitable but just uncomfortable and shitty enough to want to leave. If you live in the sunny Bahamas why explore or invent anything. I've been patched up by the NHS a fair number of times. Always been treated well, never paid a penny. I'm more than happy to pay taxes knowing that the next time I chop something or get hit by a car I'm going to roll out of hospital without a bill. They've saved my cousins life and performed surgery on my sister that made her life easier to live.
No one here pays 60% income tax anon. In fact iirc the highest rate is 45% and then you need to be earning >150k a year.
I understand national health care is a hot topic for some, and there is a lot of missinformation around it. I feel sorry for those who don't have access to it

Mostly this. I'm not a fan of the state's overreach but having it providing general healthcare is a must for any developed country.
I'm a euro neet, recently went for a general check-up after many years avoiding it, my family doctor prescribed me blood work, heart stress test and ultra sound, lung x-ray, kidneys ultrasound plus a few other shit. Booked my exams on a private clinic and didn't pay a single cent, the state covered everything.

Besides that I asked my doctor to remove a few moles for aesthetic reasons, within 5 days was called for a hospital appointment and on the same day had a surgery booked for today. Costed me nothing obviously.
The entire process took less than 15 days. For peak covid season I would say it was pretty damn good.
Will report back in a few hours after seeing how the surgery goes.

The reason it is so difficult for America to implement a universal healthcare system is because of two things. First off, it cannot be handled at the federal level. It will come eventually, and the Fed will have to advise states to mandate their own healthcare. It will be run at the state level, with state adjusted income tax. The problem here is that many states will not run it appropriately, and a few states currently don't even have income or property tax. This will piss off a lot of people and cause a bureaucratic nightmare.

Second, our country is too diverse for such a desire. You must have a homogeneous society for anything universal to work. Universal people = Universal care. This is undeniable fact. Include this with our unhealthy lifestyles and an American "NHS" will implode on itself.

The path to better care of our people would begin with a fat tax, a sugar tax, additional smoking tax and general excise tax overall. The last time this was done, not to fund healthcare but fund a war, the colonies revolted.

It really isn't. Have you seen how the VA healthcare is run? The DMV? Our government is extremely inefficient. Any form of universal healthcare is not currently possible in our country. The true fix for it is to get the government out of it. Things were much more affordable before Obamacare.

I would be delighted to see a Universal Healthcare solution for the United States, but it is a long and treacherous road. Millions would lose jobs over it(insurance companies), pay would significantly decrease for medical staff, an immense amount of tax planning and increases that will piss off the general public(and the rich that would lobby the government as they always do). It is just a difficult system to implement in a country like ours. Remove the Fed and states can attempt their own solution, but some states will succeed and others will fail.

I took the end of my thumb off with a log splitting machine and got the skin from the removed bit grafted onto it. The operation was done under local so I sat through the surgeon 'shortening the bone' which was basically him using what may as well have been bolt cutters to chop the bone down. Was pretty gnarly.
But what was fun was seeing all these people in what, to me, was a pretty high drama situation, being totally chilled. It's their day to day so they were just chatting about the weekend. Had this crazy clash going on where the atmosphere was 'kind of bored at work' but there's someone bolt cutting my thumb bone!

I've got a mate, who's mothers been a nurse for ages, she reckons making nursing a degree is one of the worse things that ever happened to nursing. Before, people would understand that, as a nurse, their main job is to clean up after the patients and just generally be helpful, wiping an old bastards arse for instance. Apparently, however, when they made it a degree, you've had a lot of fancy bastards come into the job, who think a lot of the more menial stuff is underneath them.

This coincides with my experience of the NHS, my local GP is retarded, I don't even bother going to see them anymore, I just treat all the injuries I get myself.

Nurses today are doing the jobs of doctors yesterday not because they think they're 'above' menial work, but out of necessity. And nursing assistants now exist to pick up all the jobs that nurses used to focus on anyway, so there's no work that isn't getting done.

When the communists took power in China part of what they were promising was good healthcare for everyone. But training a lot of doctors is fucking expensive.
So they worked out a trick. They sent dudes to every bumfuck village to talk to their witchdoctors and compile all of the superstitious bullshit in China. Then from that they would develop a canon of bullshit which they would say is real and they called it Traditional Chinese Medicine. It was much easier to train people to do this bullshit stuff so where they couldn't have real doctors they would have dudes doing that.
(And FYI I have seen Western politicians actually suggesting this in the West and probably for the same reason!)
Training doctors is fucking expensive. If you pretend pajeet and Quequeg's medical degrees from foreign countries are interchangeable with yours you can import them when you didn't pay a cent to train them and let the poorfags deal with their shitty treatments.

That's a moronic exaggeration. But we are an unhealthy nation, more specifically we're a nation of fat fucks, the second fattest in the world. Did you know that type 2 diabetes has brought departments all over the country to their knees year-on-year, more so than any other condition? More needs to go into preventative healthcare, ie. educating people about how not to be a fat fuck, and society will reap the rewards. Unfortunately nobody in the government understands this because "people are sick of listening to experts".
