Awesome, I did something like this for my beds. Best thing to do is go for the most thin saplings and use more of those. They bend easier and are just as secure.

Very based, Anon.
The traditional name for that is "wattle." Coat it with a mixture of mud, cowshit and pulverized dry grass on both sides, and it becomes water-resistant and semi-permanent "wattle and daub."

How durable would a fence like that be when used as a side of a raised bed? Seems to me like it would decay and need replacing after like 2 years.

I'm wondering the same, I really like the look,, and I was precisely thinking of doing it for a raised bed but have the same concern.
I know where I live we use chestnut for fence posts because it doesn't rot (and I mean 10-15 years + in the ground doesn't rot) so i was thinking of doing this using chestnut branches

Fucking worthless 100%. It would take longer to find all that shit to cut down and then put in place, then it does just filling the under side with debris, which you'd still have to do even if you put the wall up.

I think it would really depend on the type of wood and the moisture in your area. I've used just untreated pine for outdoor flower boxes before and had them last ~5 years but I also live in an area with a ton of white oaks, I imagine using branches from one of those you could make a fence like this last over a decade.
