>>2062934I work for a major water purifier brand, and have sold water purification/ filtration for over 8 years prior to that. I’m intimately familiar with lifestraw and sawyer.
Both are garbage.
Lifestraw is an impractical unit, and unless you get something like the flex it’s a waste of money because you cannot store filtered water.
Sawyer is extremely popular, but the membranes they use are cheap, and they have highly inflated claims for lifespan on their filters. Don’t believe the claims that they can filter hundreds of thousands of gallons. The guy who owns sawyer is also a massive prick.
The katadyn befree is a good option. It has realistic lifespan numbers, a good quality membrane, and good science behind it. I’ve met the Swiss engineers who design their filters and they really know their shit. Id also suggest something like the MSR trail shot.
Of all the water filtration brands only 3 have R&D teams who take testing and claims seriously.
>Katadyn>MSR>LifesaverYou’ve probably never heard of the last one, but they’re out of the UK and make very high end purifiers, mostly in larger formats and not so good for a light bugout bag.
Life straw and sawyer both use cheap Korean or Chinese membranes and don’t actively develop new technology, instead they license whatever becomes available.
