So I just back from a hike with a few friends to check out the first snow of the season in CO.

My asscrack started itching really bad during the walk. Like almost bad enough for me to just say fuck it and scratch.

Wtf happened? Did I not wipe well enough? Hairs get all fucked up? Worms?

I've been looking for new gear. I'm looking a lot at Mountain Hardwear jackets. How does their DryQ compare to goretex from say, Arcteryx or The North Face, and Marmot's Membrain in terms of durability, waterproofing, breathability, etc.

Sometimes you can find these is small packages. Another solution is to put a small amount of Vaseline or other lube on your ass and groin so your parts don't get irritated when you're going up the trail.

Most likely one of two things or both:

1: Micro skin tears due to chaffing getting mildly infected with normal bacteria.
2: You back is out of alignment (Anything from L5 on down) and causing a pinched nerve that results in this sensation.

I've had number 2 a lot and going to a chiropractor or realigning it myself always helped. Number 2 is easy to tell if only one side itches at once, but both can sometimes. It usually takes 60 seconds to stop after realigning your spine. I do it by laying down on my back for a while then stretching side to side. Number 1 is pretty common. However, scratching is the worst thing you can do for either problem. It will only tear the skin more and make it worse. You can wash up gently for Number 1 and that will help. Keeping dry will also help. Preventing chafing also helps.

Now, if it was number 2, would it be right in the crack? Like the around the gooch/hole area? Or the cheeks? Because you said one side, so that means cheeks?

my friend, that sounds like nothing more or less than chaffing, cased by sweat and friction. I hike a lot, and the asshole is always a problem area. There are many solutions, but the best I've found- bear with me now- is Vagasil. You don't have to believe me. But you should. Because that shit works. You just have to be secure enough in who you are to buy it. (I always steal mine, however, because it fits easily into a pocket, and that shit is way expensive.)

Probably chafing, could also be a small anal fissure. Meticulous hygiene is the first step, then hydrocortisone (to reduce inflammation) or vaseline / antibiotic ointment (lubricant). If it doesn't get better in a week go see a doctor.

Never had a problem with my tuchas while hiking besides "swamp ass" -- a little hand sanitizer with the last wipe helps.

But lately lots of trouble with chafing around the jimmies. I just powder 'em up and wear box briefs to reduce the friction.

When I'm traveling or just planning to walk a lot in the near future, I shave all of my ass. Not flawless, but helps quite a bit with reducing friction if you're hairy. I forgot to shave before I went to New York a few months ago. I walked probably 30 miles in 4 days and it hurt so fucking bad.
