I got this 2013 civic 60k miles for 6k. I'm pretty frugal and don't need much as long as it gets the job done. I don't mind spending money on stuff I really want though (right now I'm thinking about getting a portable rechargeable generator for my electronics).

If you have access to tools, build a collapsable platform like pic related. It's literally all you can do. It will have to be thin enough to fit in your door width. You can make it in two or three parts depending on your skill set, if you make it well enough all 3 pieces could lay flat in your trunk.

The 13s were some of the most reliable civics made and they are one of the last models made without all the modern touch screen/globohomo proprietary bs in them making them particularly desirable in the current used market (which is very hot atm). With regular maintenance and care they will run 250k+/miles easy while your chevy/ford/gmc starts shitting the bed at 125K/miles.

Not sure OP but Honda Fits are great for car camping. A thick queen sized memory foam mattress pad folded in half fits perfect, tucked behind the front passenger seat that's moved all the way forward and titling forward. You can fully stretch out if you're 6' or under. Pic related.
