Been looking for a new all around jacket that that is adaptable for both colder and warmer weather.

Pic related have stoked my interest since it utility of the pockets isn't hampered by a backpacks hip belt (since you can run it under the jacket, Through the side zippers), good ventilation options and a really nice hood for shitty weather.

I'm not to concerned with it being to warm since I probably will be fine with just a shirt in warmer weather.

Ive been interested in them for the lack of zippers. Was thinking avout getting the Norrøna Cotton anorak or whatever its called. If Arcteryx made on in the same material they made the leaf alpha jackets I'd get one, and if it had buttons.

what about the fjällräven is worth €500?
i would expect that either would last me a bare minimum 15 years, likely at least double that with some half-assed maintenance and botched repairs

Fjällräven is a bullshit brand that asks bullshit prices for their basic bitch (though admittedly decent at that) polycotton.
And as for felted wool ... it's a bit more complicated: The market for felted 100% new wool is small and mostly with higher tier fashion. And most of that is expensive merino that doesn't scratch the lady's sensitive skin. Felted wool fabric, made from coarse stuff that is actually durable, is incredibly niche to the point where manufacturers can ask a bonus for it (even though the base wool is cheap as fuck.) Add to that lacking economy of scale and the final garment is pretty fucking expensive.

These are competitively priced. Go and tell me that 500% markup on a polycotton jacket are ever justified, I dare you.

Btw. my experience with fjällräven is mixed - incredibly light fabric that survived 7 years of constant (casual) use on one jacket, opening seams after 1 year on the other. You can always fix the latter of course. I honestly don't really know whether there's big quality differences with polycotton, but I kind of doubt it. Biggest difference for durability will be the fabric weight.

Just buy something from decathlon its cheap and with good quality . I bought this jacket 3 or 4 years ago its been my daily choice for woods and urban, the insulation is removable so its usable in cold autumn or fall aswell, still hasnt needed a single repair to it and it was just 40€. They also have anoraks.

I feel like this would be annoying in warmer weather because you couldn't just unzip it for airflow if you were getting too warm. With this it would need to be either fully on or fully off.

There's no "all around" jacket. I've got a $60, pvc shell jacket rated to -30 from Canadian tire that is so fucking warm I straight stripped it off when I was skating on river at -11. I've got a rain poncho that left me feeling cool and dry at 87 degrees in the Florida spring. Grab the gear for the thing that you're doing. There's "three seasons," there's "hot," and there's "winter." No gear is good for all three.

With wool in US, you have:
Asbell Wool ($100-$150)
Empire Canvas/Pathfinder ($300ish)
Filson ($400+)
Weatherwool ($600+)
You can also find shit at goodwill. What a lot of people miss is merino is the thinnest micron wool, which makes it soft (less pokey since its thinner) but more fragile and expensive.
If you want a cheap, long lasting base/midlayer go with Stanfields. It's coarser, but fuck you.

You can use a polycotton/NyCo type top for something thin, tightly knit that the campfire won't rape. The concept here is they dry out before massively soaking through. Some use Fjallraven fabric (polycotton) for this, but you can also find milsurp like Austrian M65/Anchutz M75, American M-65, British CS-95, German Flecktarn (80 cotton/20 polyester). Most of those have one issue or another, but that is milsurp for you. CS-95 is loud, Austrian M-65/American M-65 has too many layers and doesn't dry out quick enough. German Flecktarn has too much cotton. Austrian does have some later version with goretex and sympatex too.
You can use a natural or synthetic wax on these too. Otterwax, Varusteleka makes a wax, Nikwax. It makes it less breathable, but worthwhile to put in high water areas like shoulders at least.
I think you'd have to know what you are doing to go this route, as if your jacket soaks through, you will need a plan B, or a midlayer like wool or fleece that can get damp without the chill.

Second this, Fjellreven is such a mixed bag, but generally overpriced on many occasions. They make good stuff, but its rarely worth it if you dont get it at a discount. Arcteryx is slightly guilty of this themselves. Their LEAF line is amazing, but a lot of their other gear is overpriced imo. But Fjellreven and Arcteryx have become big brands even outside of outdoors use.

Asbell price IS right. Their pathfinder looks real tempting. If they decide to offer it in their evening stand plaid, I'll probably buy one. Is it worth getting the heavier weight though? Or just wear a vest under it instead?

I wouldn't get anything thinner than their extra heavy. There's no way that that blanket weight is 32 oz in the first place. That zipper should let you dump a ton of heat anyways. That's just me though. If I was in a desert and wanted something closer to a baja sweater, maybe. But i'm cheap and want durability.

I don't know where Asbell gets their wool from. It is obvious a place like Jas Townsends makes their wool blanket shirt with Woolrich blankets. I don't know any wool makers that makes anything like old hudson bay blankets, but for the price i'm guessing it is thinner than stated but still as thick as any modern wool blanket you could buy now, just not that they make it like they used to and not for that price.

The cut on the särmä anorak is so fucking dumb I swear.
From the shoulders it's narrow, but from the stomach it's like a tent. It's shaped like a church bell and if anyone doesn't have narrow shoulders or a big stomach, the fit is terrible.
Also it weighs like a sin and I don't know what's the deal with the huge buttons they use.
Them being so big makes you look like a leprechaun
