Unless you are going to push for Greater Idaho or Jefferson state, Oregon hides their sales tax bonus with hefty property taxes. Bend and Redmond, Bend 2.0, are both expensive towns.
I've worked in a few areas in Eastern Oregon and you will never have political sway so things will continue to get worse for you. After all the rioting this summer and fire mismanagement, Republicans only did 1% better.
SO loves the coast, but if things don't improve over the next decade, I may have to leave with or without her.
Oregon's like some of the NE states, like Vermont, that are lacking in diversity, but still vote like its good guy Bernie Sanders in charge.
