So at least some of you were in the boy scouts, back when it was only boys. Share your experiences with leadership and the great outdoors.
>Be me
>13-14 skinny as a rail
>Trip will be 16 miles over three days
>Pack as light as possible so I can keep up with the troop
>Bring Budlight insulated mug becasue thats the only one my dad had
>Go to church and weigh pack at 6am
>pack is 10 lbs dry weight
>Car ride into the sierras is fun but I sleep for most of it
>Get to drop off

>Gather troop gear and march into the wilderness
>First day is fine if not tiresome
>In the morning we eat mountain house
>I eat artificial eggs for the first-time and love them
>Comfy
>Hiking up steep hill with dead leaves and little grip.
>Adult takes my pack becasue I can't stand
>friend who is the same weight and build as me keeps his pack
>I feel shame and weakness, but the hike washes those feeling away
> Camp second night
>Tent with friends, playing Texas hold 'em till the older boys douse the fire
>The road down the mountain is a welcomed sight
>We joke about me being the weakest link but the best swimmer
> Drive back adn I stay awake the whole time,
Not a very exciting story but that was the first time I knew I had an uphill battle compared to the rest of the boys.
Or maybe it was my mentality.
