Anyone else out there ready for sledding season??

I still need to buy a helmet/outerwear. What helmets and gloves do you guys wear for sledding??
I do live where it routinely gets to -30C so that is a factor.

Really? I know the president of the snow mobile club in my town and he strongly recommended BRP. I suppose he may be an undercover shill but I know many people that say good things about BRP

I have been sledding for 20 years, and every guy I know who got a BRP product has returned it or sold it by the end of season. Many times I've been on day rides and buddy's have broken down. If I were you I would lean towards a polaris or something.

2012 Pro-RMK 800 155" here. Love that sled.

Gear depends on the riding you're doing.
Trails? Full-face helmet with electric visor, and a heavy jacket.
Mountains? Light and breathable. MX helmet, good dual-pane goggles, and a balaclava underneath.
Jacket/pants, again, lightweight/breathable for mountains.
Also, I'd ride without a helmet before I'd ride without a tekvest and knee protection.

Brand choice depends on what you're comfortable with. Polaris, for me, is the easiest to ride. Skidoo is just awkward. The XM's are better, but I can't ride an XP to save my life. I regress 4 years when I'm on one of those.

If it's your first sled, consider what your riding buddies have too.... especially the guys with tools who know how to fix them.

Yeah, my riding buddies were the main reason I went BRP. Everyone I know has one.
There are no mountains where I live, most of the time it will be trails or across lakes, hoping to find some deep powder.
I was hoping to avoid having to get a sledding coat, but maybe I need to bite the bullet and just get one. I was hoping my insulated Carhartt coveralls would do the trick for legs.

However, application-specific gear is well worth the expense. I used snowboarding gear my first year or two. It worked OK, but the soles of the boots shredded on the boards. Pants weren't cut to fit knee guards very well, and didn't have elastic gaiters at the bottom to keep the snow out.

Good gear is worth the cost. Being dry means being warm, and should something happen and you need to spend the night on the mountain, being dry may save your life.

I need to pop my avalanche pack this week, have that trigger serviced and cylinder refilled at the snow show next weekend.

xm and xp are 2 different sled types, one is mountian and one is crossover (summit vs gade). I imagine since you;re used to a mountain sled you would find it a little easier to use than the 'gade.

I would also highly suggest a sled coat and pants and good full face helmet too and good gloves

Not talking models, I'm talking chassis. '08? when they came out with the XP's, then '12 when the XM's came out with that t-motion rear skid.

Same way Polaris had the IQ chassis on RMK/Dragon (mountain), Switchback (hybrid), and Fusion (touring).
