>>2073676linen is not a good choice because of the loose weave. same with light cotton.
synthetics, and wool, and denim, all block a lot because of the tight weave.
however, you can't actually make a good judgement about how effective a material is at blocking UV, based on the amount of visible light that passes through. a UV protecting garment may leak light when held up to a lamp, but is still like 50 UPF.
it's like how you can have a film on your windows or your sunglasses which block UV, but still allow light to pass. the actual structure of the fibers in some fabrics are better at intercepting UV light.
OP, look into sunscreen. idk if you live in america, but american sunscreens suck nuts. we are really behind on sunscreen technology, and we don't really let new chemical sunscreens go to market.
japan has really cutting edge sunscreens, because their women's beauty market drives sales. europe also has good sunscreens.
i would personally recommend biore perfect milk. you can get it on amazon. take my word for it, it's phenomenal. i am an autist and i am very particular about stuff i put on my skin, and this shit is great. i wear a different sunscreen most days, but this is the "best one".
it's waterproof, and it doesn't make your skin feel funny, and it doesn't stink, and it doesn't leave a visible film.
it, of course, does leave an actual film, because you can rub your hands on it and it comes off, but that's unavoidable. also, it has aluminum in it, which will turn your white clothes yellow, like how antiperspirant turns the armpits of your shirts yellow. unfortunate, but whatever. that is the only single downside to this sunscreen. if it did not have aluminum in it, it would be the best sunscreen and there would be nothing better.
it's thin, it's like milk. it dries in like 10 seconds. it lasts all day. you wash it off in the sink or shower with a soapy rag. it's phenomenal.
the blue "milk" one is for your body, white "perfect" for face.
