Lotta wooded paths, some smaller lakes and trails. There's some industry by me so I enjoy exploring around the industrial parks and taking pics. Indiana Dunes state park is really nice.

People surf the great lakes. Not in this weather obviously, and it's not like pipeline or mavericks, but people surf. Kite boarding is becoming more popular, it's always windy at the lakes.

Actually, that's the weather they get the better waves in, it's just a matter of finding a place where everything is coming in at one angle so you don't get all fucked up.
I don't surf, but my dive buddy does and he routinely has an ice beard surfing in november.

Minnesotafag here. I've been /out/ in all these states so I'll give you the rundown of each one.

MN: The north shore is great and superior national forest is pretty decent.

WI: More forest and lakes than MN but not as quality.

MI: Upper peninsula is peak, the rest is mediocre forest and coast.

IL and IN blow ass. Don't bother.

OH: The southeast is okay, but if you're going down that far, you may as well go to KY or WV.

PN: Overrated shithole.

NY: Upstate has some gorgeous places but there are way too many people. Just go to New England.

Sconnie here, driftless area is pretty cool. Nice hikes all throughout. Camping at Devil's Lake is pretty much a checklist item for every Wisconsin family, and the Elroy-Sparta Trail has some cool spots. But, as >>2072998 said, there's a lot of towns throughout. Wisconsin Dells is known for their waterparks, near Tomah is Fort McCoy, so watch out for the various ranges/military police near there, so don't stealth camp within 10 miles, just don't. La Crosse and Winona are both college towns, so set your expectations near there accordingly, and the bluffs along the Mississippi valley there are pretty cool.

The UP is generally great and the people are cool but normies are starting to flock more. I lived in Chicago and went on backpacking trips in the Porkies every year the last decade and crowds are getting worse. I last went in October and it fucking sucked - I just want to be alone and take mushrooms by myself innawoods. I moved to CA a few months ago and even though it is pozzed the /out/ is great.

Last summer was disgusting with the amount of RVs with texas license plates, the amount of trash that these people left everywhere was insane. Another Minnesotafag here. I stick with the UP, Wisconsin and North Shore to camp, MTB and hike. Between those 3 there is plenty to do/see. Highly recommend Copper Harbor

wiscofag checking in. C-N Forest has plenty of beautiful hiking/backpacking trails. Did some dispersed camping or backpacking or whatever last year. Sadly i didn’t take any pictures but its a very beautiful place.
