Think macro to micro. Globalism is a resounding success in creating a new battlefield for a new era. No longer can the goal be starving rival powers, or outcompeting an alternative worldview. Now, success as a state is found in the leverage you can negotiate over your "allies." Total war has passed, cold war is ended. Consolidation will rule tomorrow.
Thus, to get ahead, cities must look to other cities for trade. Encourage a policy of import replacement, by cannibalizing rootless corporations and creating micro-manufacturing. Turn to your surroundings to diversify resources, and become producers for self first, consumers of others later.
Individuals should form dual clan structures, forming generational wealth on both sides of the rural-urban line. Even better if the two compliment the other, i.e. farming grain and apples to provide for bakers; logging and chemistry for woodworking. Become artisans instead of manufacturers, reforming the guild system to exert political power against corporate and political opponents alike.

Do not be self sufficient. The Father did not let Man struggle alone. The Son founded a community to ensure our earthly and heavenly needs. Be as far outside The World's system as you can. Cut your cost of living by producing food and clothing. Seek durable pastimes, over constantly consuming media. Build fixtures to last generations. Buy raw materials and tithe finished ones.
Look not to The State to validate your wealth, but to The Church and the least of its members.

Have children
Plant a garden
Make something real.
