I do that with every bigger pack (>20L) I've had.
Pack it with with shit and do a 3-4 hour hike.
And there's nothing wrong with hiking on fire roads, even animals are smart enough to use them.
Excellent if you just want to walk a bit and test new shoes/a new backpack or if you just want a relaxing walk.
