Bought a pair of these last weekend to go hiking with, and holy FUCK are they comfy. Truly the kino way to tread through nature. Does anyone else wear hiking sandals?

These are unironically great for day hikes, water activities, and things requiring swapping shoes a lot (rock climbing). They are awful if it's cold or you have to go through gravel.

Rubber boots are based but the biggest problem is you have to bring 3 pairs of socks as your boots becomes tubs of sweat

I wear sandals exclusively whenever possible, and only have a pair of dress shoes beside them. I wear flip flops hiking, or over-the-bridge single straps. Can't stand the ankle harness on hiking sandals. Once your feet get really used to flip-flops, you walk in a way that makes it perfectly comfy even when backpacking. Even when I lived in Canada for five years, I never put on shoes unless the snow was above the rim of the sandal and actually touching my feet.

I've owned a pair for a few years. Great for hiking, camp shoes, sometimes I even run in them. When I first got them I had just gotten a 110L dry bag backpack so I wore them with some quick dry shorts and swam out to an island for an overnighter. Definitely recommend

Sweat is a problem. I have the best luck with Addidas soccer socks w/ rubber boots as opposed to thick hiking boot socks.

No.
The fucking things seem to be the same price as actual hiking shoes/boots.
The last thing I want is dirt and sand to mix with the sweat from my feet.
Wearing socks would make it pointless.
And it gets to a point (picrel) that...might as well wear my boots or at the very least lightweight summer.running shoes (that are mostly mesh).

Get sandals that are a size or 2 to big, the lip in front will help guard against stubbing your toe. Apart from that, nothing is going to toughen you up enough if you slam your toes straight into a branch. Just be more aware of where you're putting your feet.

I have closed toe keens and they are great for trail shit. Occasional pebbles come in from the side but otherwise great for toe protection while still allowing air in.

I’ve had the same pair of Tevas since 2009. They hold up super well. I kind of want to put new Velcro on the straps because they’re super comfy worn in. Hiking sandals are great because you can wear them through rivers and they dry out easily. The only problem is that they open your feet up to biting insects

I have two pairs of tevas and have worn through a pair of birkenstocks to where I had to finally throw them away and I have to say birks are more comfortable and the raised bed helps keep pebbles out. The other thing is my black tevas hurricanes would heat up in the sun to the point of burning my feet in the summer during use. I also don't like how squishy they are. I have a regular flat pair of tevas in grey and they are my go to for kayaking.

Am I the only one who thinks these are INSANELY uncomfortable to hike in? I bought a pair of teva hurricanes with the hopes to use them on hot summer days to day hike but my god. Going up Incline was horrible because my foot would be sliding too far towards the front and pebbles/dirt kept finding their way in. And when I used them for what they are meant for (stream crossing) I just ended up making a mud pit in my shoe . Are tf are you suppose to use these ? Is it my fault for using them in Utah? (mostly dry dirt trails with tons of gravel)

Am not retarded, so I wear boots most of the time, but watercrossings, airing out feet after hiking, and hotsprings use is actually pretty great. the xeros have less support or protection or whaterver, but theyre lightweight af and can squish/roll up into any shape

I wear hiking boots without breaking them in. The thought of wearing a pair of sandals, let alone to go hiking does not sit well with me. I'm used to wearing heavy clothes anyways. I even feel weird not wearing socks.

Thing is, I think I could get away with walking through bush in sandals as long as I wear socks covered in permethrin too. I got some Merino-wool toe socks from Earthrunner (fuck their overpriced "earthing" sandals) and did just that. I'll let /out/ know if I catch Lyme and die.

I went for a short 5K walk in my Bedrocks both uphill and downhill and I got massive blisters for some reason. Not sure why. Did I need to tighten the straps more? I could just wear Injinji socks, but I’d rather not be a socks-and-sandals guy

My usual repair involves cutting a patch out of teabags, and then laying down a layer of clear nail polish, then the patch, then another layer.

Basically a composite patch for foots.

You are a coward and a weakling. I only wear boots and denim jeans year round and I live in an area that regularly sees 100+°F for months at a time. Just drink plenty of water and wash off a bit at the end of the day on the trail.
