This thread full of idiots. THis guy was probably walking around, and did not want to look "stupid" by randomly yelling, or talking to the woods. SO he ended up sneaking up to a bear, that he probably did not see, Which freaked out, got territorial and killed him.
If he simply did as i do, and was every few minutes saying "Hey bear FUCK you you hear me you out there?? Im right here! So piss off!" Bear would have heard him, and did a bluff charge, or at the very least made a noise, so he could know not to walk there.
I walk alone in Yellowstone, and other grizlly areas for many years, Just have to make noise so you spot em. I have gotten about 100-200 meters /yards from grizzly and cubs, and black bear and cubs. Both times i made myself known, and just walked away from them.
