Any mountain climbing counts friend, everybody climbs for different reasons and mountaineering is a very broad sport. I love it for the beauty, the challenge, and the overall feel of it, but some may like it for other reasons, either way mountaineering is still a beautiful activity

Where do you draw the line? Many ways to get up a mountain:
>"This car has summited Mount Washington"
>Class 1 hikes of various distances and elevation gains
>Class 2-3 scrambles with varying rock quality
>Class 4 which starts to become more technical
>Class 5 which is obviously technical but also includes rock climbs from 5.0 to 5.15 which may not fall under the "mountaineering" umbrella
And that's not even mentioning the height of the mountain. At what elevation do hills become mountains? 2,000 feet? 4,000 feet? 14,000 feet?
If someone went on /r/mountaineering and posted about a summertime hike up a mountain like Fuji, he should expect to get downvoted to oblivion and lectured about how that's not actual mountaineering.

You make sure to avoid avalanche prone slopes (35-45 degree slopes) if possible and watch the weather forecast for 2 weeks (or more) in advance of your desired day to understand how the topmost snowpack composed. You make sure your desired day to set out on your climb is not after a snow dump and instead wait for a mild spell. You then read avalanche forecast for the day before you set out - never step foot in avy slopes when the forecast is above 2 solo unless you know what you’re doing.

Anyway Avvy is more of a concern for skiers since they go out for powder days and we prefer packed snow and ice which doesn’t slide.
