>>2088240There are some very nice areas with ancient ruins (Roman, Celtic, Middle Ages) and some intact castles and stuff, and generally very nice landscape from completely flat in the north, at the sea, to slighlty hilly, to outright alpine. So compared to e.g. Danmark or the Netherlands, it has more variety. Very nice trails as well.
On the flipside, it's too densely populated and you will have a hard time to REALLY get away from people. On some trails, depending on the time of year, you will still be able to spend a day without seeing anybody else, but it's tough to walk one or two days without any sign of civilization (roads, small towns, or those goddamn wind turbines).
Also, wild camping with a tent is verboten, though there is a saying, "Wo kein Kläger, da kein Richter" - "without plaintiff, there's no judge". If you keep out of sight and choose a reasonable spot without making too much trouble, most people (hunters) won't make a fuzz. Also, in recent times there have been some more efforts to create camping spots that are very cheap or even free, but often those require a reservation in advance.
So, at the end of the day, there are better countries (e.g. Scandinavia with free roaming/camping and much more sparsely populated) and worse countries (those with less attractive landscapes and rich history), so it all boils down what you are looking for.
