Anyone else here build their own mini kits? I have a few. The one I have on me at all times is in a mini altoids tin. I build them with being /out/ for three days in mind.

They leave a very distinct taste, not pleasant. But it takes about 30 minutes to disinfect a quart. Boiling is quicker, but requires more equipment.

My kit kind of looks like this:
1 wet wipe
1 chapstick (emergency candle)
1 bandaid
2 razor blades ( 1 straight, 1 precision)
7 flints
A matchbox
Earbuds (incase i am packing (unlikely))
1 thread and needle (green spool)

It’s not perfect but could be possibly very helpful. I want to add some 800mg Tylenols, and maybe some iodine tablets.

In the past I’ve managed to keep it on me during flights, however, this is while I was active duty, federal L.E. Times have changed along with the contents. In ‘01 I flew from MA to CA with my leatherman and pocketknife, again in ‘05 from NY to CA. It was a different world then. Now I don’t travel without my Sig .40 plus mags. I avoid places who deem it ‘illegal’. Retired now from active, now a journeyman electrician. Had a house that refused entry because I was armed. Master electrician of the company is my former fireman (as in E-3). Counter sued and won that particular shit show.

Yes, you can cook in them and boil water, if you were using it as a temporary tool it works great. Unfortunately, their size isn’t optimal. The tins I use are the puzzle tins from a local store, slightly larger than an altoids tin, even then, after evaporation it takes about 12 tins to fill a quart bag with water. More with an altoids tin.

To extend the life of the tin I coat the bottom with two layers of 1200 degree rust-oleum. The top I use high vis orange along with glow in the dark aurora paint. I apply a flat clear coat to the top.

somewhat related, here's my new char cloth tin, used an old boot polish tin, used wire wool to scrape out the dried on polish, nailed a small hole in the top and borrowed some of my girlfriend's cotton makeup wipes for material. will probably make some char cloth this weekend.

Wrapped around the tin, it makes it waterproof. Beyond that, whatever you can come up with, cut strips for butterfly closures, bandages, sling, patch things.

My autism tin includes following:
-Leatherman squirt ps4
-Bic mini lighter
-P51 can opener
-Tool that makes cordage from plastic bottles
-Duct tape
-Olight i3E AAA flashlight

-Painkillers (ibuprofein)
-Allergy medication (anti histamine)

-Wound swabs
-Alcohol swabs
-Plasters
-Blister plasters
-Dental floss
-Some money
-Caffeine tablets
-One condom
-Sewing kit and a couple of buttons
-Viper bite medication

It is a bit larger than your regural altoids tin, but it still isn't that large. I have size 11 hands so you know what size tin I am talking about. The tin is okay size to be carried in a cargo pocket of my cargo trousers or in the front pocket of my jeans. I'd need to restock it though, I have been using the contents of it whenever needed.

I think it came with some buthane lighter or a flashlight. It had the products logo on it, but I then scraped it off and drew the red cross on it with a red permanent marker. I have now carried that tin on me since 2015 and it has been with me in airplanes on holiday/study trips, in foxholes during army exercise and once I almost sunk in to swamp with it during one army exercise.

Sorry about not being able to tell you better what tin that is.

For a true survival situation it is a bit low amount of stuff itself, true. But for daily life a few painkillers, allergy meds, caffein tablets and so on would be good to have. I collected this set >>2091114 based on the experience on what I might need or what would be good to have. I still should add some diarrhea meds because that is awfull if you are on the move. I guess I would call it a mini medicine box rather than a survival kit.
