No i just tied my diy climbing spurs toy feet with it, didnt use any safety rope , just a tree belt.
Ps : the spurs were a one time use only as rebar apparently bends even when welded thick

get some amsteel and learn. I just made up my first whoopie slings with some dutchware titanium hooks and endless loops today. It was pretty easy and relaxing to do. Next is some soft shackles and make a ridgeline. You can get 100 foot hank of it off amazon for around US$30 and loads of instructional vids out there on youtube.

The only true difference outdoorsmans answer. If you’re using any cord on a tree without at least some strips of webbing like this to protect the tree you are a cunt. The only part of a tree that is alive is the thin layer under the bark. I’ve seen huge trees die because some fuckhead left cord wrapped around it and five or so years later that die, the bulge and grow around it for a while but once that thin layer under the bark gets severed the roots can no longer carry nutrients and water from the base to the leaves. Almost no one knows this so tell people if you see them putting nooses on trees.

I use 5mm steel rope picrel. Sure it weighs abit more but it would take more than 1.6 tons to snap it. But ive but 2 clamps just to be safe.

Ok a more accurate statement would be "could be" subjecting to static loads much larger than 170lbs. Assuming OP is a retard who uses 550 paracord for a hammock, they may have tied it tightly such that the hammock sits at a 20° angle instead of your assumed 30° angle, developing a 250lb static load.

Amsteel is by far stronger cordage than paracord, and it copes much better with a shifting (i.e. bouncing) load. Paracord basically only copes with static loading. That's why you use Amstel for hammock suspension, not paracord.

That's the complete opposite of what I'm saying. Rope bends incredibly easily, so it doesn't carry bending moment. You can't push with a rope, you can't apply torque with (just) a rope, you can only carry tension with a rope.

Since we're kinda on topic, what's the use of paracord? Sounds good maybe for parachutists who get accidentally dropped of in jungle and lost their pack, they at least get some rope. As far as I know non milspec can also carry a fishing line and fire starter, which can be useful, but really it's better to bring a great cord, enough fishing line if you need it (with hook, weights and all, if you know you're fishing might as well bring those) and some charcloth or vaselin imbued cotton.
So yeah, why do LARPers use paracord when they can use dyneema?

It is grippy and can be knotted easy. Decent strength and has some stretch to it. It is ok for some small stuff or doing some fast tie downs. It is on the heavy side and also holds water. For general diy/utility around the shop and farm it is good light duty but i think there are better options for any kind of /out/ use.

Paracord is an inferior cordage for all purposes that are not jumping out of an airplane. And cords marketed to look like paracord while not being actual MIL-C-5040H paracord is absolutely retarded. It's only benefit is being cheap enough and good enough to do most thinks that aren't supper important. Personally I prefer bankline for almost all purposes.
