>>208990I don't know what the hell you're trying to ask, so I'll just start typing some interesting shit to give your thread life.
Human and animal waste, or any biomass for that matter, can undergo anaerobic fermentation to produce methane (CH4), a hydrocarbon that can be burned as fuel for cooking, heating, electricity, and transportation. Some sewage treatment facilities are self-powered by the methane produced from the sewage they treat.
How is this applicable to an /out/doorsman? Say he wants to have a gas range, but doesn't want to depend on propane.
>obtain 55gal plastic barrel>add pressure release valve on top set at 10-15 psi>fill barrel with water, shit, food scraps, lawn clippings, etc.>screw a piped lid on tight that leads to a gas stove>screw the other lid on barely snug>let sit for a week to cook off the oxygen in the barrel>screw on other lid tightly>let sit until pressure is released by the valve>use gas range>profit>replace barrel contents periodically>profit moarNow say he wants electricity/heating from this.
>get stirling engine>hook to dynamo>get gas burner and hook to shit-barrel>power stirling engine>use power from engine to blow house air over the engine's cooling fins>profitBut transportation? How the hell, you wonder?
>get air compressor>mod intake to take methane from barrels>flood compressor with methane to eliminate oxygen>fill air compressor with methane>get high psi air tank>mount in vehicle with otto cycle or diesel engine>replace gas line with air line from tank>flood tank with methane to remove oxygen>fill tank to safe psi>drive>profitSince methane's not as dense as gas, though, you'd need to twiddle with the fuel/air ratio so enough gets in the cylinders to keep the engine going.
All of these ideas I'm planning to attempt as soon as I get my own place. What do you think, /out/doorsmen?
