>>2096065I work at the Arizona Conservation Corps currently. Almost every state/area in the US has it's own conservation corps, and they send crews out to build trails and do other conservation projects. It's really not hard to get a job with the Conservation Corps, just go on
coolworks.com and search around the different corps for something you like. Montana Conservation Corps, Southwest Conservation Corps, and Arizona Conservation Corps are all great places to work. Not too hard to get into either. There are also trail crews hired by the BLM, park service, and forest service, but those are hard to get into without any trail experience.
Trailwork jobs are usually hitch based; working for 8 days and getting 6 days off seems to be the standard. Mostly it involves camping at the site during the hitch and then working throughout the day. This job is honestly the most satisfying and meaningful thing I've ever done, and getting to work and live outside with the crew and getting back to camp after a hard day feels amazing. The hitch lifestyle is also amazing because I get to work constantly for a time and then get a big chunk off to spend hiking or whatever.
Honestly I reccomend anyone try the conservation corps out if you can work physically for long hours and live outside. A love for conservation and the outdoors also helps when the work gets tough
