>>2091589As someone who has a chinaphone just be wary that you will never get security or feature updates for a phone like that. Custom roms are also usually not a thing apart from cosmetic ones.
I have no idea what kernel modules the Atom comes with but for example if you want to use Wireguard protocol based vpn the app uses usermode (high battery consumption) or kernel (low battery consumption) mode based whether the support was compiled in during manufacturing process. This is not baked in even on western phones but at least with them sometimes you get some sources so you can do it yourself.
Same goes for mounting windows shares from your phone and streaming files - only possible with kernel driver, if your phone doesnt have it - it has to downlaod the whole file before it can access it.
Granted these are specific use cases but little shit like that adds up.
Next up is quickcharging powerbanks. Theres only one brand that im aware that has mediatek pump express support, so your usual powerbanks will take half a day to charge the phone.
Other idiosyncrasies include no physical button combos to enter recovery mode, janky gps chips, flickering screens when the charger is plugged in etc.
I really like the Atom L concept but i already got burned by $300 china phones several times. Id choose a phone based on how well its software is supported by the community. Look up lineage os and it successors/alternatives, maybe efoundation.
