Do you not have pockets? It takes roughly half a second to whip out your phone as it would to glance at a watch.

I had a fully charged apple watch 3 die on me on a 20mile hike. The battery lasted for 11 hours and 20 minutes, but the hike took all in all about 15 hours.

Anyways, my friend borrowed my Garmin Phoenix 5x. I want to know ( if there is someone who actually uses the same watch) is useful as a gps/topo map display? It comes with preloaded map of Europe, however im interested in trails not roads.

Got the 6X. The maps aren't great for plotting and planning routes but if you preload the routes with .gpx files the GPS is accurate and the screen is big enough to properly navigate with, it's kept me from getting lost a few times.

You probably didn’t have an iPhone with you. If you have an iPhone somewhere with you, the watch will use the GPS from the phone instead of the watch GPS, this saving battery life. At least that’s what I understand about how it works
