>>2096702>Anyone else not like running into other people in the wild?Yes. It can be jarring if you meet someone after being alone for a long number of hours hiking. I always try to be friendly when I meet someone. I met a couple heading down a mountain once and we had a discussion about the conditions at the top and how best to approach the peak. Meeting single females on a hike is awkward because they are shaking like a leaf inside and rarely make eye contact making common courtesies difficult when passing.
I met this one old dude on my way down a mountain once as I cut through a forest. We locked eyes and I got a shot of adrenaline. I was glad to have said hello though as we had a nice chat about the health of the sheep living on the surrounding land, and a story of how he was part of a team that placed a cross at the top of the peak many years back.
As I walked away, I constantly checked over my shoulder and had flashes of me shanking him and removing his head from his torso. I’m sure most people feel this way but don’t actively talk about them in the open.
Best of luck and don’t forget to say “Hi” to your fellow hikers anons.
