How do you protect yourself from the sun if you have the skin of a Transylvanian zombie?
I'm not a fan of sunscreen as it's sticky, gets on my glasses and has to be reapplied regularly.

I got a nice Tilley hat last summer which worked nice enough, but has anyone tried sun hoodies? Are they as protective as they claim? Which brands are good quality?

How do you protect yourself from the sun?

Mine has a baggy hood too, so it drapes over the bill of my cap and keeps the sun off my face, would recommend

yes both! i routinely wear a light merino turtleneck in early/late summer and it works well. linen button ups work great for that too, very breathable

Fitzpatrick 1 here. I know your pain anon. Even an hour outdoors leaves me with a red face.

Invest (yes, it's an investment) in some nice white linen. If you don't have amish near you, you'll probably have to go on etsy.

Make sure the linen is THICK. People don't really care about fabric weight these days and it's easy to get scammed on some paper thin material. Linen is one of those fabrics you can add extra weight and it won't make it hotter. I prefer undyed because it's just that more naturally beathable.

And then get a straw hat. Wide brim. There's a reason they've been in use longer than iron tools have been a thing.

Linen (if it is thin) is actually rather poor at UV protection. Cotton is much better at it.

Problem is even after spending 2 months in the Caribbean, wearing T-shirts and shorts, the "tan" I got was really pale and not protective. When I got back home north of the 42nd parallel, people were like "Hey I thought you spent 2 months in the tropics! Where's your tan?". I had to show my tan line on my hip, with color gradient that went from titanium white to eggshell white to show where my tan was ;_;

Yeah, I think I'll start looking for linen. Ramie is also pretty good apparently, but super hard to find. Anyone know of brands that have pure ramie shirts apart from Outlier?
