I have used one extensively and it will double as an axe in a pinch, but this depends on if it is sharpened or not
It's biggest down side is it length, because if you are going to be digging alot you definitely want a longer one
Other then that it is probably one of the sturdiest tools i have ever used and it's weight is low enough not to be cumbersome, but it does have some heft to it
