Face it, people who hunt and kill animals are participating first hand in their ecosystem in a way you can never acheive just by hiking and are thus more of an outdoors man than you can ever be if you never kill. You're just a tourist until then, which is fine, but you ought to know that.
Taking a direct part in the circle of life is an experience second to none in the realm of outdoor appreciation and your appreciation will always be lacking until you do it.
