This thread is about being /out/ on the water.
What boats, what loads and what locales.
I was thinking of getting this dinghie to replace my old sit-top 10' kayak. I've seen a few vids here from some Japanese guy that takes his to nearby islands to camp and fish. Think it'd work for going down river?

Once I get the ladder rack on I was going to either get a john boat or a small canoe. I think a johnboat might be better for fishing.

A canoe will get you anywhere you want to fish but a Jon boat won't tip over as easily if you fuck up. I might trade in my kayak for a canoe this year.

Taking a basic keelboating course on the local lake soon. Also looking at buying a cheap sunfish or laser to practice and fuck around on. End goal is to eventually get to the point that I can get myself a cruising boat and see how I like living on that.

Boat in pic is a Topper Kruz its a nice enough boat, stable in water, isn't the fastest thing ever but is good for cruising on fairly calm water.

Personally, I think if you want to carry gear i'd go for sails, sailing is good fun on its own as is and a skill worth learning. Though ofc you'd have to take the sails down if you wanted to fish off it. Also I dont fish so don't have any clue as to what else you might specifically want for that.

Depends on what country you are in but just check Gumtree for kayaks that have good carrying capacity and make sure you don't buy a real skinny one

made sailing rig for my canoe last week because i got surfing board sail for free
mast foot is held in place with velcro glued to the bottom with boat grade sikaflex
tried her once and got the impression that i definitely need more practice

For sit ins, pyranha fusion is nice. Or equivalent boat in wavesport or dagger depending on whats sold near you

half of the 150cm leeboard is hidden under the sail in that picture

Sailboats without power would make terrible fishing boats. You would always be wanting to get in tight to shore, cover, or sheltered bays after fish, areas where it's impossible or dangerous to sail. Added to the fact that like you said you would need to drop the sails every time you stopped to fish.

I think you'll regret it. Unless it's really cheap and it's all you can afford to get out there, that looks like a pain to assemble, and those plastic junctions at the ribs look very flimsy. Can you even stand in that floor? Or will you need to carry a board/mat for your feet?
