Which do you prefer and why? My Swiss army knife broke and I am looking for a replacement

imo multitools are too heavy, especially when you can accomplish the same things with a simple pocket knife. all really depends on how often you actually use the other parts of a multitool

How did it break? You do know that the swiss army knives have a lifelong warranty, just take it to a retailer that sells them and they'll send it back to Victorinox for repair. They should do it no questions asked.

I slammed it into a tree trunk and the blade just flew off. I got it in the Swiss army and asked them if I can get it replaced but they said I have to pay, thats why I asked. Was happy with it so far, but I always thought a plier would be pretty handy in certain situation.

I have had a leather man wave for about ten years. I have sent two back to the factory for simple fixes, and each time I have gotten a new wave sent back in about a week each time. Get the pocket clip. Makes it much easier to carry

Well that does sound like unreasonable abuse, no knife except for a decent fixed blade would withstand that. I carry my Leatherman Wave + that I got for Christmas present. Before that I carried a Leatherman Fuse, that I had bought from some stores cleareance sale for 15€.
To me pliers are a must, since I always carry wire with me, for building shelter and such. We did that during my conscription service, and I kept doing the same thing afterwards as well.
While outdoors, I usually have my NCO course knife and the leatherman with me. That has helped me do everything I have needed to.

I had a super faulty problem with my Forester which happened in America, and simply waited until I got back here to send it in and was mailed a new knife with a sweet graphic of a buck on the handle.

I have a leatherman squirt ps4 as well that broke in half, literally. I brought it back to a retailer and they sent it back to the manufacturer. I was sent a new one as a replacement so I must say that I can't complain about the warranty of leathermans either.

Thanks for the offer anon, but the knife is pretty cheap (around 45 CHF), so its not prohibitive at all. Just made me think about maybe getting another product instead

Classic leatherman format is a waste of weight.
Classic swiss army knife lacks pliers.
You'll want a larger standalone blade anyway so having a slightly bigger knife in a heavy multitool doesnt matter.

I dont know how, but every time I use my Stanley 12-1, I always manage yo pinch or cut myself. Picked a Victorinox Explorer that is MUCH lighter and more pleasant to use. And you can get away without pliers, in my opinion

I carry a Leatherman skeleton every day and use it at least two out of three days. But when I camp I take a knife and leave the Leatherman at home. I just dont need pillars and a screwdriver inna woods. Fishing, take both.

I find that a multitool mostly saves me the trouble of walking to get a screwdriver. Having scissors is also handy but they're too flimsy to be used for everything I might use scissors for. Still useful.
