The good stuff has cushioning in the sole, you can see it. If the sole is just one block of rubber, it's not cushioned. I don't know american companies, but in europe there's germans, austrians and italians who make boots like that.

I have some nice composite toe Carhartt's like pic related which served me well when I was doing construction. Pretty sturdy, comfortable, and not suck, if a little big. I imagine they would make decent hiking boots.

Can be adapted to your foot to some degree (mtm), cost is about 450€ I think.
They should last 10-15 years without shoe care and more with.
Just make a holiday in Europe and visit that shoemaker on a daytrip.

He can combine it with holidays in Europe. Not my problem that Americans have worse options in terms of textiles. Geiger is good, waiting times used to be 1-1.5 years. I think it went down to half a year a few years ago, I don't know the current situation.
OP can also stick to Danner, Thorogood, Red Wing, Chippewa, etc.

i got two pairs of hanwags and the full leather waxenstein is superb and 100% water tight when treated, can vouch for that.
But, the low ancle support feels like it will hurt like hell until they are used and get hot, then it just feels great.
Tbh though it is probably worth it to get Lundhags for a pair of real boots.
They last longer and do not have problems with crumbling soles like some hanwags do, it is a different tier of quality

I've always fancied a pair of these but nowhere near me (UK) stocks them to try on. I've bought a few Lundhags clothing items from Europe pre-Brexit but not sure if it is worth the hassle now to try on various sizes and styles of boots and needing to do returns.
