No a coreman or anything, 5% chance I could do a trach but that's better than 0. I got that and the naso stuff after hiking with a really cute thru hiker and she got stung a few miles before town by a bee, was deadly allergic.. She luckily had an epi pen, if she didn't though..

Watched a few videos on the CAT, also better than not having it provided I don't leave it on or apply it when its not needed.

I didn't even think there was training for a sucking chest wound..

I'm not a military larper and I don't usually even take the kit, but getting shot by a drunk hunter is a thing so.

If you don't ventilate a chest seal properly you can collapse their lung. Tbh you would be better off using a gauze pad drenched in petroleum jelly. You should get an NPA, and forget about doing a trach.

The most often used things on a hike are headache pills and triple antibiotic, with bandages
I should include mole skin, now that I think about it- heel injuries are common

On a serious note tourniquets are not likely something you'll need. They're for traumatic penetrating wounds which are extremely unlikely to happen when you hike. More than likely you'll suffer crushing injuries from slipping and falling and you'll want a splint and EBT for that. I still bring CATs when hiking but I don't expect to use them. It's just dead weight

You carry way too much useless shit. Antibiotic ointment, excedrin, some ibuprofen? Cool. Nice job. Those are handy. A chest seal? Oxy? A fucking ETT? Are you carrying around a fucking ambu bag too or are you gonna ventilate the patient by blowing into their tube like a straw? How do you even know they aren't ventilating on their own? You got a stethoscope and pulse ox on you? You're not doing the next medical personnel a favor; you're wasting time. Medical larp is the worst larp. Your best piece of equipment is a radio or a cellphone to call EMS to fly that patient to the closest trauma center. Call 911, grab a ton of 4x4, and hold it against the wound until the actual flight nurse arrives. Do a quick assessment and get ready to report it. "Patient found down, positive loss of consciousness, he woke up, he says he takes blood thinners at home. He's drowsy and keeps falling asleep mid conversation." Please don't waste time thinking you'd save someone. I see too many traumas who are fucked because someone decided to not call 911.

Ppl do more than hiking though. Buddie had to use a TQ when he was chopping wood for a fire when the axe bounced off of the piece of wood and went into deep into his shin. I myself carry a gun and usually do some shooting. At least 1 TQ should be added to all IFAKs, even if it is a shitty Rats TQ.

I carry an in reach as well.. Have you ever known someone whos hit the button on one? Depending on weather it can literally take days for the chopper to get there.. 2 hours for a best case scenario. Funny I did get a breathing bag that fit in a small can but it won't fit in the kit so I figure they'll just die.

You're absolutely right though if my friends throat swell up I'm just going to sit there and watch them die because I don't have muh medical license from some ivory tower

How do you even get oxycodone "just in case"?

Also, why aren't you carrying a sphygmomanometer, a pulse oximeter, and an AED. Would be a lot more useful than a shitty antibiotic.

If you're /out/, you will most likely die of exposure to elements. Odds of you sustaining trauma are very low (with exception to hunting, I guess). Odds of a medical emergency even lower.

Basic trauma care is good to have (TQ, splint, even CSpine) but something like a chest seal is essentially useless for /out/.

What are you going to do? Incorrectly place an ETT and ventilate your friend for 2 days straight? Have you even used an ambu bag on someone before? If your friend gets into anaphylactic shock and forgot their epi-pen then they're fucked. If their throat swells up, you're fucked anyway because you're not getting that tube down there. I highly recommend you get your BLS and learn CPR. You'll get a cpr card which will be a very useful tool.

I'm still kinda learning shit, and I assumed that if they can still self-ventilate then even if they have an occlusive chest seal they don't necessarily need positive pressure ventilation assuming it didn't penetrate the lung

I don't see anything to suction the patient with on that list, so you'd best just put an AMS patient in the recovery position. That way they don't choke to death on their own vomit while you helplessly stand and watch.

Yeah, no. If you haven't trained that at all you'll most likely get to watch your patient gargle on their own blood because you injured the thyroid or nicked an artery, in addition to them having an allergic reaction. Even if you were able to do the cric, you'd have no way to ventilate the patient since you don't have a bag. And they'd still die of the anaphylactic shock pretty quickly.
If someone is having a severe anaphylactic reaction in the middle of nowhere and they don't have several epi-pens (adrenaline only works for a couple of minutes, even if given im) and stuff like H1-antagonists and cortisol, they're gonna die. It's not just their throats swelling up, their lower airways swell up as well, which makes ventilation virtually impossible. Also, the severe shock is gonna kill them as well, since they'll run out of volume in their system. You better just bring an extra epi-pen and hope for a quick rescue.

I think the CAT is a good thing to have. Tourniquets are not something you want to improvise. It's a time limit thing. Even though it IS unlikely you'll need it.

Don't carry the Airway or any kind of decompression needles or anything invasive, unless you are specifically trained (by a professional, not "I read about it"). There is an argument that you could run across someone who IS trained, but why carry stuff you can't use on the gamble you'll run across someone in the /out/?

I see stuff you can use for blisters, basic wound treatment, splint...
Add some rolled up nitrile gloves, maybe a small tube of icing in case you run across someone in insulin shock, an epipen to supplement the benedryl... Oxycodone and cyclobenzaprine are a bit much for a basic kit. Be careful about scripted meds if you're traveling around. Also, antibiotics aren't a one size fits all thing. I won't say don't bring them at all, but you'd be better off with bactracin or some other wound antiseptic than antibiotic pills.
If you really want to carry something for severe problems, bring a PLB. As a WFR, you can treat simple stuff and you can call for help. If you find someone already unresponsive in the weeds, you're probably just calling for recovery anyway, even if they are alive when you find them.

It's good to be prepared, but drop the stuff you aren't trained on. Or get training, that's a good investment too.

Based. One thing I'd reccomend, Finn bro, is a little bottle of lavender oil. It's really, really good for treating minor burns which would otherwise hurt for a few days. Probably my most used piece of kit, saved a few of my mates painful burns.
