I have a problem.

There is an angry skunk in a live trap that must be removed. I live in the city so a .22 to the dome is illegal. So, what is the most humane way to dispatch this vermin? Drowning? Poison? Car exhaust? I would rather get rid of it now before it dies of exposure or starvation.

Drowned a coon last week, simple really, just submerge trap into garbage can full of water. Or plastic bag around the trap and tape to a car exhaust.

Hey guys, OP here.
At the risk of snapping some suspenders, I will inform you all I did indeed drown it in a garbage bin. No smell; no tell. The reason I posted this question because my roommates and I had a heated discussion on exactly how to deal with it. The debate was quite like that in this thread.
Also, for those of you who think I acted cruelly might like to know that a few days before catching Mr. L'Pew, we caught a raccoon. We proceeded to give it food and water, then got it nice and high via ye old hotbox technique. We exchanged goodbyes and sent him on his merry way.

I'd say if you wont keep it as a glorious spirit animal, or release, or call animal control or whatever and you've decided to kill it, just pop it with a .22 real quick. Use shorts and people will barely hear it. There's no need to inflict unusual cruelty on an animal by gassing it or drowning it to send it into a panic.
