So it's coming to that time that I'm starting to go through my kit and I'm getting a bit sick of how heavy my lavvu is. I'm curious what tents you guys use, I'm after something fairly lightweight but I don't give a fuck about all this Ultra light weight larping.

Do canvas tents actually work for long term usage? More specifically, throwing on my parent's farmland so I can live rent-free. I'm talking years of use at a time

I want one for a humid subtropical climate (i.e. southeast US) but I hear the humidity really takes a toll on them and so they're only really good for use in the dryer western states.

Red pill me. There isn't really any other option I can find for a good long-term shelter that's relatively quick to construct.

Just tried Eureka TCOP. It's pretty heavy at 7lbs but I like the blackout feature that blocks out all the light, reversible fly between woodland and light tan, and the double vestibule. Good shit.

Eureka is the shit. I bought an Amari pass solo before they stopped selling them. It works great, but traps most of the condensation inside with the fly.

Slept in my ex's akto, we both got in fairly good although the standard groundsheet being smaller than the tent was annoying. It from moderate use did show some sings of wear (small holes etc) and she took care of her stuff obsessively. I like a lot about it but it really Isn't worth the price.

every tent that I've ever bought has INTENTIONALLY not been waterproof, i mean they post it in the specs clearly stating like '500ml water resistant' or something. what the fuck?
i used to bring a tent camping and it always let water in, i thought it was a fault but it was actually jsut designed that way. why the fuck dotn they just make the top made out of fully resistant waterproof material like a tarp or big sheet of plastic? i dont get it

ive camped atleast 3 times and got wet in the night due to rain, with puddles forming in the tent

I have the French F1, but the desert version. It has air flow mesh on the sides, and only one door not two. It is very nice, not heavy. It fits two well, not tight, you just have to stake the side flaps up as well as the bottom stakes. The top flaps keep it straight on the sides, not droopy triangle.
Pic related is mine, note the upper side flaps are not also stakes because we couldnt find the stakes at the time so we cut out wooden stakes but didnt want to make another six. Camo netting because I like to larp

French former military here. They work well and are close to indestructible but are heavy compared to modern tents. They are meant to be split in two loads and carried by two persons.

I'm deciding between the Luxe Outdoor Sil Hexpeak F6a and the Minipeak XL for 2P usage. The outer tents weigh around 1kg. Have a look at the Minipeak II or the Hexpeak V4a if you want to have a complete package weighing around 1kg (inner with outer tent).

Years? Doubtful. Tents are temporary structures, not permanent ones.
Eventually, the fabric will wear down with the UV degradation. If it gets wet and doesn't get a chance to dry out for a while, it can grow mold. You can prevent that by treating the canvas every so often though. It's not a long term solution.

tl;dr Not really a long term viable option. but good luck to you.

I own a heavy duty baker's tent with stovejack that I've used for years in northern WI and you could live out of something like that, but you'd have to make adjustments and repairs on it regularly if you never took it down. What you really want is a yurt.

Whatever you do you'll want a wood semi-permanent frame like on a deck or something, and if it were me I'd make the whole thing screened in and just have the tent as like th roof and have wall flaps you could raise. Or do a geodesic dome, geodesic domes are bad ass.

I got the minipeak XL, with the liner, its pretty comfy, easy set up.
When you first set it up though it looks super weird, you gotta pull out the corners a couple times after you set up the center pole.
