Last year it was crowded even on weekdays and the traffic on the 61 was kafkaesque.

Was thinking about doing it as my first thru-hike, but I don't know if I'm quite experienced enough to run something like that. It also would require putting aside almost 3 weeks of vacation time to complete (assuming 20miles per week) and I don't know if that's worth the fucking around.

It's a scenic and easy hike, just make sure to watch your back. There are a lot of gays on that trail.

Beautiful country up there OP. Not into hiking really but I go trout fishing in the streams there sometimes. I always really enjoyed the shield rock formations and waterfalls, there's just too many yuppie tourists fucking around on the North Shore all the time.

2 mph * 10 hours of hiking = 20 miles per day. Maybe that is a little quick of a pace on a hiking trail but it's not obscene. The trail is 310 miles, so accounting for an easy day every three days (i.e. rest day in a town, maybe see some cool shit) that should be possible in ~20 days.

You'll give up on some of the views but there's much less popular hiking trails in the Superior National Forest. I like to backpack up there to get away from the trail name hiker dbags. Still worth stopping and day hiking along the North Shore for water falls and shiiiiitttt
