Early explorers wrote about seeing whole forest with countless trees that had trunks the size of a average bedroom. The Piedmont region of the south east was dotted with wide open meadows that resembled prairie and thick forested areas along streams. There was also a vast abundant wildlife population with Elk and Bison.
It's difficult to imagine what this looked like if you visit the region today.
