What are your thoughts on teardrop campers? Considering doings a build and wondering if anyone here has experience with building/camping with one.

If they've got good ventilation then condensation won't be that big a issue, but definitely something for cooler climates, wouldn't dream of trying to use one on a summer night in the desert. Inb4 Hurr-durrr don't camp in the desert.

I'd prefer it if it came with less focus on appliances and more focus on the unit it's self. I want a bare unit with a side and roof window and a few drawers. But the base units come with stoves and memes, and they only add drawers and ceiling window if you add more moneys

They would be cool if they had kitchens inside along with a toilet. The fact that you have to stand around outside and cook or shower or do other things basically negates them, because then you could just be using a tent and not hauling around a 1000lb trailer. if it isn't self contained then it's not worth it honestly.

A buddy had one and used it for years to go surfing with his dog. Your pic rel, is most definitely the glamping version compared to what my friend had. His was a bit more low profile by maybe 6-8". The only real issue I had with his was that the frame seemed under built.

In general most consooooomer trailer frames (aside from a goose neck) seem to be built and spec'd to an absolute basic standard where the quality passes some minimal regulation but the quality isn't there. The quality of the tear drop in your pic is there, but the trailer looks like chink shit. Someone with more experience can convince me I am wrong, but welding a bunch of 'L' bracket together to make a trailer chassis seems poor quality. 'U' or square tubing I think would hold up longer and flex less.

Maintaining one is like maintaining a large boat. You need to have every skill involved in building a house, and even then the original materials tend to be shit to save weight.

Actually, I would pay harbor fees before buying a trailer. At least you can fish off a boat.

What's the point of that? The point of a teardrop trailer is to be aerodynamic and save on fuel through reducing turbulence. When you add shit to the exterior it adds drag and turbulence. With that much shit on the outside it would be better to just get a boxy trailer with a prow because you could fit your shit inside. Also, the wheel well should either not be at such a steep angle or just removed because it isn't recessed. Are the people who designed this retarded?

i live in vegas and my friend built one to haul behind his truck when dirt biking far enough to need to stay the night. he seems to do alright. the desert cools off quite a bit at night so if you can open it up a lot once the sun goes down it will be bearable

In a high desert yes, low desert no. Two examples. Not all deserts are the same.

Lake Havasu City, AZ elevation 700ft, avg July lows between 80-95F
Vs
Snowflake, AZ elevation 5,600ft, avg July lows between 50-65F. Same latitude same state.

One extra example between them in a semi-humid climate, same state roughly same latitude. Flagstaff, AZ elevation 6,900-7,250ft, avg July lows 43-58F. AC is optional here.

These thing are a neat idea, compact and efficient, but as with all outdoors stuff the companies that make them ruin it by making it so that only yuppies can afford them. All of the cost savings of the small and efficient size are ruined by making it the same price as a small RV.

One time I saw a family at a McDonalds with an obviously homemade teardrop camper and I applaud their effort, that's how this should be done.
